We live in a world that screams for our attention, telling us that happiness comes from material possessions, relationships, or even a perfect social media feed. You know, the classic “if only” mindset. “If only I had that new car,” or “If only my spouse was more like my friend’s spouse.” Or “If only my life looked like theirs does on social media!" We keep thinking those things will fill us up, but it’s like trying to fill a bottomless pit with sand—it’s just not happening!

Here’s where faith comes into play. The Bible teaches us that true contentment comes from God’s presence. Psalm 16:11 reminds us, “In your presence there is fullness of joy.” It’s not about what we have; it’s about who we have in our lives. When we focus on that relationship, everything else starts to fall into place.

As we journey through this book, we’ll weave in stories from friends of mine who I have had as guests on our Television Show who have tried to fill their voids with everything from relationships to substances—only to find that true fulfillment was missing. One woman I spoke with shared how she thought a new relationship would finally make her happy, but instead, it left her feeling more isolated than ever. Her “if only” turned into a “why did I even try?”

These stories serve as powerful reminders of the empty promises of the world. They show us that when we turn our focus away from God, we’re left with disappointment and heartache. But when we lean into faith, we begin to discover a deeper, more satisfying joy. Let’s challenge ourselves: what if we started looking to God for our needs instead of our circumstances, or things, or other people? What if we trusted that He knows what we truly need? It’s time to stop playing the “if only” game and start embracing the “I trust God” TRUTH.
